New Line's Freddy vs. Jason is unleashed in theaters everywhere on Friday, but many fans got an early peek at the studio's premiere of the film at Camp HackNSlash last night in Austin. What's the verdict? Here's a spoiler-free report from 'Iain'...
A bunch of us went to the world premiere last night, August 9th, in Austin, Texas. It was an event put on by the Alamo Drafthouse which included an all-day camp, activities, BBQ, wet T-shirt contest, and a lot more. The movie started about 10pm or so - just after dark - and ended around midnight at which time Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger arrived along with Ronny Yu for a Q&A session. The movie absolutely ROCKED!!! I was afraid the story line would be cheesy, but it was anything but! I'm not going to mention any of the details, or who wins, but suffice it to say that, according to Ron, over 3,000 lbs of blood was used in the making of the movie. Don't miss it - you'll just die if you do! The night continued with more horror movies through until 6:30 in the morning, then breakfast, then home. A hell of a day! Prepare to have your nightmares resurrected!!!!
And 'viniciousknibb' also wrote in with more (also spoiler-free)!
Just thought I might let you know that I was a camper this past Saturday at Camp Hacknslash. Camp Hacknslash was a horror film festival co-created by Harry Knowles from Aint it Cool News. We saw the premiere of Freddy vs. Jason last night. All of it. Including the mysterious final five minutes. I wouldn't dare reveal anything, just to say that the crowd was more than blown away. This could easily be one of the best entries if not the best in either series since the original films. We were at Camp Hacknslash all day and participated in several camp activities. After Freddy vs. Jason, the Alamo Drafthouse presented "Sleepaway Camp", some random rip-off of Friday the 13th that I was too groggy at 2 am to remember, and the superior to "Meatballs", "Wet, Hot, American Summer". It was a great day. We should all thank New Line, Harry and Tim from Alamo Drafthouse for making this happen.
